Tests
The kids are taking the CST’s (California Standardized Testing) this week. The amount of work and preparation that goes into the tests is insane. Every Thursday since February, my 4th and 5th grade kids have been told to basically do nothing in my homework class but read. It’s to build their stamina up for the testing. A few students take to it no problem, but a few also struggle with...
Wellness Days
Whenever I have to see the GI, I will take the day off from work. It’s a luxury that I’m fortunate to be able to take. Going to the doctor can take all day, especially when you’re at the mercy of free healthy care (thank you, San Francisco). I’ve been in circumstances where I’ve waited two hours to be only seen for less than fifteen minutes. Not to mention having to...

Ulcerative Colitis and Teaching
For people with IBD, the assurance of being able to get to the nearest restroom (you know, just in case) is so necessary. But what if you’re in charge of thirty elementary school students that can’t just be left unattended at any given time? It’s the issue I’ve got to deal with everyday I’m at work.
Everyday, I think about logistics that a person without IBD...

Two Days Back After Spring Break
Students are getting prepared for standardized testing. They’re coming in with homework involving answering questions via multiple choice/answer/guess.
About a dozen kids have come up to me everyday to ask me to donate to a little girl with cancer. I’m unsure if this child goes to the school. Must investigate further. Must find clever way to choose which student I’ll donate...

Family-time Visits
It’s always a nice change of pace to leave SF for Arizona.
For one, I get to spend time with family and eat my mother’s cooking. I also get to dig out my warm weather clothes (tank tops, sun dresses, sandals, you know the cute shit.) and be able to wear them out here no problem. Plus, coming out to the suburbs is a good change in scenery for a while when living in the city full time ....
Mah Period's Ah-Comin'
I know this because I start craving food combinations that I otherwise wouldn’t think of.
Example, today I felt like just eating-all-the-things. I had:
1) thin mints
2) milk tea from Quickly
3) mocha frappacinno
3) pork rinds
4) kare kare
5) sisig
6) corned beef and cabbage
I basically ate the thin mints as a side to each meal. Since I didn’t go out, I treated myself to tea...
Checked Myself Before I (really) Wreck Myself
First session with a therapist.
Let’s see how this goes.
Major topics discussed were: ulcerative colitis, stress garnered from said UC, anxieties caused by UC.
Funny how I had this session just when I’m feeling better. Pointed this out to the therapist. She said that it was common thing to happen.
Feeling hopeful.

Revamped the tumblr.
Really considered just deleting this and starting a new one. But I’ve already amassed a nice collection of sites to follow and I hate the thought of having to refollow so many folks. So I’ve done the following:
Removed a bunch of posts—mainly pictures that I had reblogged in the past that have no significance to me now.
Kept a few posts up—mainly...

Hi.
Last year, I said I wouldn’t post here anymore. That was a lie. I’m going to try to be more active on this thing. Going to try to have more real updates (like actually updating with original content) rather than reposting pics from other tumblrs. Let’s see how it goes…

Things to be Happy About
In light of recent events that have put me on a total buzzkill, instead of wallowing and feeding the sads, I decided that it is much more productive to not be such a Negative Nancy. I am a very big believer that the burdens and obstacles that are bestowed upon us are only as much as we can handle. My load is heavy at the moment, but I would like to think it’s because I have become immune to...

A Message to Ms. Frizzle
I would like to say, first and foremost, that I am a big admirer of your work with the children. Personally, anyone that can inspire the youth to enjoy learning about science is notable in my opinion. However, I have noticed that being that you are an elementary school instructor, it appears that you do not encompass other subjects in your class curriculum. For instance, the other day I noticed...

Juno as a Boy's Name
I like the thought of giving my son the name Juno. All the sites that I’ve visited have said that the name is for females since its origin is from the goddess of marriage and fertility. But I like the sound of it for a boy. I mean, what better way to break down so-called gender specific barriers than by naming one’s son with a typically (though uncommon) name such as Juno. Notable...

Dear Fifteen Year Old Girl at Baby Shower:
Why are you dressed as if you are going to the prom? Your hair is exceptionally poofied into a half chinois, your make up is flawless, your nails are fresh from the parlor (how can you text so well with such long nails?). Could it be because of the boy you have been messaging since you came to the party who is about to arrive in several minutes? Why the mean mugging face in my direction? Although...

Indy, Henry, follow me. I know the way. Ha!
– Marcus Brody from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. By far, it’s my favorite part of that film because I can relate to that character. Remember, after he says this, he goes on a fast gallup on his horse and barely holds on while he rides away. Hilarious. We both lack a knack for danger and...

17-Year-Old Thinks She's Getting Into Photography →
Is that the “in” thing to say nowadays? I’ve noticed quite a few Tumblr pages that claim their hobbies include the aformentioned activity. I can’t help but roll my eyes. Really? That’s the most unusual hobby you can think of? Owning an expensive camera does not automatically make one a photographer. Fine, I suppose there are quite a few out there that are genuinely...

Realization #2
I used to think Kristen Stewart was a potentially good actress. But then again, I only saw her in that movie Speak. I have come to realize that her style of acting— the Keanu Reeves style of deadpan robotic acting, that is— worked well in that film because she had very few lines. She played a traumatized girl that barely spoke experiencing high school as an outcast. Her awkward thing...

Realization
Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer are dating. It explains a great deal. Like why he’s been collaborating with her and so on. I just thought they were chummy. Which isn’t to say they aren’t. They are dating after all.
It’s just mind boggling to have these two artistic personas get together. It’s wonderful and I’m glad they’ve found companionship with one...

Eve and the Fire Horse
Got to wantch this on IFC this morning. What an amazing and lovely movie. Set in the seventies in Canada, the story is seen through the point of view of two young Chinese Canadian girls. The surreal moments of the film really captures the imagination of the younger sister, Eve. It’s about being able to juggle two different worlds. The mother of the girls is able to do this by integrating...

Interestings Thoughts (sadly not my own)
1happyst:
Whenever a ghost in a movie tries to grab an object, their hand always waves right through it. They walk through furniture, they walk through doors, and they even walk through people. But why don’t they ever fall through the floor? You’d think that movie ghosts would have to hang out in the basement.
Better question (okay worse): If the door of the house was made out of the same...

This repels me but fascinates me all at the same time. Environmentally, I suppose it has it’s benefits. But do I really want more discomfort for my ‘giney especially when I’m stressed and Aunt Flo is visiting? I can get into more graphic descriptions, but I will spare you.
Also, I don’t like that they gave it such a girly-gal name. Diva Cup. It brings me images of Fran...

Another site with a vast collection of glorious studio photography. Take a journey back in time to see the stylings and backgrounds used from the 60’s 70’s 80’s and 90s. You will certainly have a fit of nostalgia! There’s the laser design backgrounds, the book shelf, the pose where one looks away from the camera but still have flashing smile intact. I love the pictures...

SNL last night was pretty enjoyable. I glean my comedic stylings from several mediums, among them Will Ferrell. His jokes range the spectrum of frat guy funny to witty hilariousness. I fall somewhere in the middle, I think.
This Doll Hands skit was funny. Even Nanay enjoyed it. “Why are her hands like dat???” It’s comedy, ‘Nay!
I’d like to think that the SNL writers...

Whilst Walking the Dog at 6am
Old Lady Also Walking Her Dog: Good morning! You're up early.
Me: Actually, I haven't gone to sleep yet.
Pssst. Here's a secret. I never I actually had this conversation. As a newly formed insomniac, this is the one thing I hope to say to someone one early morning. I have interacted with Old Lady Also Walking Her Dog though. But it was to pull Munchy away from her barking dog. Quite certain they were going to rumble if we allowed them. Munchy is known to pick fights with other dogs, even imaginary ones he sees on television.
Wait, what were we talking about? Oh right, insomnia.
Also, I have no life.
