My Life had a Void...
But RuPaul’s Drag Race has filled it! This show is amazing beyond words. I like the fact that it isn’t on a major TV network so the producers (ie. RuPaul) can have a lot of sovereignty over the show. And Logo had been pretty good about having full episodes online and OnDemand. Compared to major TV network reality competitions, this one is pretty low budget. But that just means that the challenges have to rely more on creativity. And for the most part, it shows. This show would only be more amazing if Lady Gaga became a judge. Why did she waste her time to be a guest on that lame Project Runway knock off? If she agreed to be on RuPaul’s Drage Race I think Logo as a network would pretty much explode in amazingness and glitter and sequence.
Another thing that this show has made me think about more is how it portrays drag queens (or female impersonators) as basically gods amongst men. That’s a bias opinion, but let me explain: I mean, not all guys can do what they can, wearing heels and often uncomfortable clothes. Furthermore, they are often concealing areas that most men would not dare conceal since that’s the epitome of their so-called masculinity (ie. their genitals). Everyday, drag queens break the perceptions of what mainstream society deems a man ought to be. And to add to that the vast skill it takes, whether it is applying makeup, sewing outfits, performing for large audiences…not many people, let alone men, are cut out to do what they do.
Basically, I love this show.
